About Inspired Horse

Artisanal horse care products for the discerning equestrian

Inspired Horse was founded by two lifelong horse woman who set out on a journey to create next level horse care products to combat common equine conditions. Noticing a hole in the market for safe and effective natural products that stimulate the horse’s healing without causing harm, Shelly and Nancy (both self-professed ‘research geeks’) became obsessed with manufacturing and testing formulas for the first product, Artisanal Hoof Clay. Over the course of two years, we tweaked over 10 versions of the product until Shelly was satisfied with the results, consistency, and shelf-stability.

All our products are artisan crafted in small batches to ensure quality and consistency.  We strive to use the highest quality, ethically sourced ingredients. Inspired Horse products contain 100% active ingredients and no fillers.

“After one of my horses was diagnosed with heel pain from thrush, I became obsessed with finding the right materials to pack into the sides of the frog to become a protective barrier, pull out toxins and prevent infection. It also needed to be non-staining, antiseptic, easy to use, and cost effective. After two years of research, development, and testing, INPSPIRED Horse Artisanal Hoof Clay was born!"

Since moving to Oregon 5 years ago, Shelly has been a constant resource for my riding and horsemanship—from her exceptional bodywork, to holistic and mindful views on training—always putting the horse first. My horses have been “guinea pigs” for Shelly’s product formulations for the past two years. Inspired Horse Artisanal Clay helped my boys stay thrush free during the past two wet Oregon Winters. I’m excited to bring these amazing products to horses and their people everywhere!

Nancy Griffin is a lifelong equine enthusiast and entrepreneur. Growing up competing on the Northern California hunter jumper circuit, she worked as a groom and brought young horses along. After college she moved to East Coast with her green amateur owner hunter, working in a sales barn in Charlottsville, VA. A few years later she purchased two Selle Francais horses in France for resale—training them in Maryland and selling them to prominent hunter jumper trainers.

Returning to Northern California in the early 90’s, Nancy worked as an assistant trainer for Marian Nelson, teaching young riders and showing horses. In 1993, she once again moved East for graduate school at Cornell University School of Hotel Administration. After graduating in 1995, she returned to Northern California where she started several wellness businesses, selling two ventures to a media company in 2008. After working for the media company for two years, Nancy went back to her entrepreneurial roots, founding Contento Marketing in 2011. Contento works with resource partners for spa and resorts—skincare, massage, aromatherapy, CBD, retail and much more.

Nancy is developing partnerships for Inspired Horse around the country, including farriers, tack shops, equestrian events, and training barns. She is also coordinating our philanthropy—donating 10% of our sales to Connected Horse, a nonprofit that offers equine learning workshops for individuals with dementia and their care partners.

She currently lives in Veneta, OR with her dog Farley and horses Bodie and Cy, retired down the street.
